Still around, I promise!!!

I've definitely been sewing this summer, so updates will hopefully follow. (I haven't had my camera in a LONG time.) So, things that are completed so far:

  • petticoat
  • bumroll
  • shift just needs to be sewn.. all the pieces have been cut
  • and most of the corset... I've been lazy about it. I still have to bind the edges... guh.. one day.

I took pictures as often as I could, given the circumstances.
They'll be uploaded soon enough!! :)

I haven't touched my corset in... almost a month. ugh.. Animation's keeping me nice and busy.. I do, however, have some work in progress pictures from mid-end of February, so I'll post those. :)

checking the boning... (i.e.: cable ties from Home Depot..)

sewed some channels and tested the cable ties.. and they fit! yay!

more to come.. soon. I'm thinking April.. School's getting way too hectic. :)

corset time!! suck it up! teehee! :)

So.. first things first: a corset. After searching through all my favourite costuming websites, I found Mara Riley's corset tutorial. I basically followed her steps... with a few changes here and there..

Like her, I began with Drea's Elizabethan corset pattern and then drafted my own pattern pieces to suit the look I was going for.. now THAT was a tough one... I didn't have a pattern so I sorta picked and chose from a few references until I was satisfied with the results and then I tested it.

Seeing as I am totally experimenting here, I figured it'd be best to do it before money is spent... Once I figured the basic shapes would work, I went back and tweak them to the actual pattern pieces and made a second mockup for fun. :) (Couldn't get to a fabric store and I was bored..)

Finally got to go to the fabric store! Picked up some cotton canvas for the interlining/basis.. they didn't have any linen canvas.. hopefully this'll work.. *crosses fingers* I basically figured out the placement of the boning channels, transfered the pattern and cut out the pieces.. and now.. MOAR PICTURES!!!

WOW. longest post ever!! jeez. I should probably update more often.. anyways, more to come!! Sewing time!!! but first, Mrs. Doubtfire. XD

Meet Coco

So, as I am unfortunately too broke to afford a real dress form, I opted for making a duct tape one. :) I googled it and found a bunch of sites that explained how to do it and sort of took parts from each one. Then, I added reference points with black tape and a permanent marker. Here's the result.. I think I'm gonna call her Coco.. :D I'm not quite done, I still need to find a good pole to use as a stand, maybe make a cover and close the armholes.. but for now, this'll do. :)

*ignore the scarf.. i was goofing off.

Welcome to Sereame's Closet. Here you'll find my costume.. experiments? Though I will mostly be making 18th century costumes, you may find clothing from other eras as well, once in a while.. :) So, here goes!
Wish me luck! :p
